The events and moments of last summer in Transylvania are history. The 2nd Great Saxon Meeting 2024 in Sibiu, under the motto “Home without borders” and with the participation of the Transylvanian Saxon Federation, has made history. And we have become a piece of the puzzle of history.
As individuals at the various events in Sibiu but also as a Großau traditional costume group at the parade on 03.08.2024 in Sibiu.
On an official level, the awarding of the Honterus Medal by the Democratic Forum of Germans in Transylvania and the Evangelical Church A.B. in Romania to Mathias Krauss, curator of the Großau parish, also formed part of the whole.
But we were also part of the Grossau community after the festivities in Sibiu, at our summer party on August 5, 2014 in the fortified church. To the sounds of the Transylvanian brass band from Nuremberg under the direction of Michael Bielz and the wonderful performances of the dance group of the Transylvanian Saxons from Nuremberg (group leader Annekatrin Streifert, dance leader Roswitha Bartel), we were delighted to welcome the many people who had come home as well as numerous guests from all over the world. You are all welcome!
Getting up close and personal with history in the truest sense of the word was possible during these days. At Transylvanian level, the “Andreanum” and its impact up to the present day. At the Großau level, the history of Großau and the people of Großau was illustrated during guided tours of the fortified church. The play “PROTESTANTEN Expulsion from the Homeland” by Thomas Perle, performed by the Griessner Stadl (Styria) under the direction of Martin Kreidt, in front of an emotionally moved and affected audience, was probably the most gripping interaction between past and present.
To all those who were willing to become a part of this story through their personal contribution in and for our community, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! It was not in vain! To all those who were unable to attend, we hope you enjoy looking at the many lasting memories of these special days in August 2024.
