Candlestick singing – Four candlesticks were set up and decorated by young people in the Grossau church for Christmas. With little flags, birds and winter greenery. The flags were made from colorful paper with the boys’ initials. The little birds were made from blown-out eggs and colored paper, and the pith of green raffia found in the meadows in the pre-Christmas period was also used to decorate them. On the first day of Christmas, at 07:00 in the morning church, the boys took turns singing the candlestick song. The first candlestick was in front of the altar, the other 3 in the gallery. Saxon boys sang next to the first and second candlesticks (seen from the altar on the left gallery), while Landler boys sang in front of the third (opposite gallery) and fourth candlesticks.

.: Song text
Day of joy, day of delight!
You gave us the blessed sun
in the teacher of all nations,
who brought us eternal salvation,
and made us Christians.
Hero of faith, welcome
and be accepted by all.
Be with us in all our ways.
Enter into our hearts,
cleanse us from evil.
The great hero of faith,
the ruler of all the world
wants to be our teacher,
deliver us from death.
Refrain: O great joy
His word’s eternal truth
lead us more and more to clarity,
that we strive to fulfill his high will
,
that eternal joys bloom for us.
Lord, your example always shines for us
May the glimmer of earth
never beguile our hearts,
draw us away from good.
May we always flee from evil.
The great multitude of angels
proclaim to us all:
The Holy Night
has brought us the Savior.
Refrain
All good things come from above.
Therefore let us always praise
him, the giver of all gifts,
who loved the world so much,
that he gives us his Son.
Lord of heaven and earth
Help us to become like you.
May we always be worthy of your love as good children
Make our hearts pure.
‘O Savior, Jesus Christ
who appeared
praise you our thanks
and our song of praise
